According to Football London, there will be developments in the race to sign Djed Spence over this weekend, writes the HITC.
Indeed, in an article that went out on Friday afternoon, it was claimed that the next 72 hours will see the race for Spence heat up, and we may well see a frontrunner emerge in this race.
The right-back is one of the most highly coveted young players in Europe after a fantastic spell with Nottingham Forest last season, and with Newcastle, Tottenham, Roma, Borussia Dortmund and Forest all in pursuit, the ‘very strong’ 21-year-old will have a decision to make.
Spence has a lot to consider here. The full-back is thought to be attracted by the prospect of playing Champions League football – who wouldn’t be? But he’s also keen to join a club where he will get regular minutes and won’t be loaned back out.
Tottenham should be able to offer him a starting berth next season. After all, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have underperformed over the past 12 months, while Newcastle may not be able to offer him the same luxury with Kieran Trippier being one of the Magpies’ most important players these days.
Borussia Dortmund could also offer up Champions League football, and after overseeing the development of the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham in recent years, Spence may well see a move to the Bundesliga as his best bet.
One thing is for sure, the 21-year-old won’t be at Middlesbrough for much longer, and by the time Monday comes around, we may have a much better idea of where he’ll be playing his football next season.
