According to transfer news from The Athletic (subscription required), Tanguy Ndombele could now end up staying at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have worked hard to find a way out for him after he asked to leave. For now, it would seem that he might remain at the club.
It’s almost easy to get carried away by the almost perfect start to the season. Three wins, top of the table, three clean sheets and a win over defending champions Manchester City. Of course, there is reason to be excited because this is a side that looks like it is taking to the new ways of Nuno Espirito Santo. Clinical when necessary and solid at the back.
With the whole side clicking into gear, there are certain problems that might get swept under the rug. But that cannot be the case with this set to be a defining season for Spurs. Among the issues, they still need to figure out is that of Tanguy Ndombele. He is yet to feature under the new manager even once this season.
The 24-year-old had earlier asked them to let him leave and the club even tried their best to fulfil the same. He wanted a move to Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Barcelona but no solution could be found by Spurs where he could head off. That means he might be staying back at the club unless there is a sudden change.
Ndombele can be the difference-maker for Spurs this season. He can possibly take them from those close wins to those convincing ones. But he will have to make his way back into the side by starting from scratch. Winning Nuno’s trust might not be easy but he will have to make efforts.
