Tottenham’s EFL Cup hero explains how he channelled inner anger to win penalty shootout vs Wolves

Speaking to SpursTV (h/t Independent), Pierluigi Gollini revealed that he channelled his inner frustrations to win the game for Tottenham Hotspur against Wolves. He came close to saving the first kick but eventually managed to save the third which was pivotal to the win.

It was an entertaining and end to end game as Wolves hosted Spurs in the EFL Cup. Spurs took an early hold of the game with two goals but Wolved produced an epic comeback. It was a chance galore as opportunities were flying left and right. In the end, it was a tiebreaker that decided it with Wolves missing three of their spot-kicks.

The game saw Nuno Espirito Santo rotating some of the players and hand chances to some of the fringe players. Among them was Pierluigi Gollini who has been playing in the cup games this season since signing for the side from Atalanta. Gollini was powerless to stop the goals from open play but played an important part in the shootout.

He managed to get close to saving the first effort from Hwang Hee-Chan but it went in off his glove. His anger was visible after that and he elaborated on the same.

Gollini then was the hero as he got a hand to Leander Dendoncker’s shot which edged the game in favour of Spurs. He revealed that he used the frustration from the earlier incident to save that shot. Spurs will now head off to face Arsenal in the North London Derby on Sunday.
