According to a report by Daily Star Sport (h/t Mirror), Everton have become the latest team to enter the transfer race for Sergio Aguero, with Tottenham Hotspur also interested in the Manchester City striker, informs ToTheLaneAndBack.
The Argentine international is set to leave Manchester City after 10 years at the club once this season ends. His contract expires in the summer and he will be available as a free agent.
This has put a lot of top teams on alert as they aim to bring the goal-scoring machine to their attack. This list includes top names such as Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and even Leeds United. (h/t Mirror)
Now, the Toffees are added to that list as they aim to make an audacious attempt to sign the former Atletico Madrid man. Everton would not be able to meet Aguero’s current wage package, which stands at £240,000.
However, the report adds that the club has conveyed to Aguero’s advisors that they would ‘bridge’ the gap by paying him a significant signing-on fee to play at Goodison Park next season.
He now faces the decision if he wants to stay in England or go abroad. When the news of him leaving became official, Aguero said in a statement that he wants to continue playing at the highest level.
“I will continue to give it my utmost for the rest of the season to win more titles and bring more joy to the fans. Then, a new stage with new challenges will begin; and I am fully ready to face them with the same passion and professionalism that I have always dedicated to continue competing at the highest level.”
There is no doubt that Spurs would hope the 32-year-old Argentine makes the journey to N17. Aguero is still a potent goalscorer who can shoulder a lot of the scoring burden for the team.
