Tottenham targeting La Liga defender after prefered option snubbed their interest

Tottenham has turned their attention towards signing Samuel Umtiti in this transfer window.

The Lilywhites are looking for another centre back that will partner Cristian Romero in their defence as they look to overhaul the position.

Spurs have long-standing defensive problems and they believe they need new options in that area to fix it.

The Lilywhites had wanted to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal, but Sun Sports says he has rejected their advances because he wants Champions League football and he can achieve that with his present club in this campaign.

Spanish outlet, Sport is now reporting that the Lilywhites have turned their attention towards a move for Umtiti.

The Frenchman has had an injury-ravaged few seasons at Barcelona and he is one of their highest earners.

The Catalans have told him to find a new club and his transfer would be cheap for Tottenham to pull off.

His wages could pose a problem and he is unwilling to lower them, which could force Barcelona to pay some if they are very keen to offload him.

Umtiti has a poor relationship with the Barca president and their fans and he was reportedly booed off in their preseason game against Juventus.
