Tottenham Set Sights on Signing Relegated Star, £15M Could Seal Deal

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a bid of up to £15 million for Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. Sources have informed Football Insider that Spurs are pursuing the 21-year-old Irishman following his impressive debut season with the Saints, who have been relegated from the Premier League.

It is believed that Tottenham regards Bazunu as a potential successor to Hugo Lloris and could be the leading candidate for the club’s number one shirt next season. Football Insider revealed last week that Tottenham has been closely monitoring Bazunu’s progress and has been impressed with his development.

The young goalkeeper fits the profile of the type of player that Tottenham is looking to invest in this summer, focusing on rising stars with the potential to develop under the new manager. Southampton’s relegation from the top flight is expected to lead to a fire sale of talent to the Premier League elite, and Tottenham is keen to capitalize on this opportunity.

In addition to Bazunu, Tottenham is also interested in his outfield colleague James Ward-Prowse, who is expected to lead the exodus of talent from St Mary’s Stadium. Lloris, the current Tottenham captain, is expected to leave the club this summer despite having a year remaining on his contract.

The French goalkeeper has had a disappointing season, and reports suggest that he has been offered a significant salary by a Saudi Arabian club as he considers his Tottenham future. Bazunu, who joined Southampton from Manchester City for a reported initial fee of £12 million last summer, has made 32 Premier League appearances across 37 in all competitions this season, conceding 61 goals and keeping five clean sheets.

The 13-cap Republic of Ireland international earned a spot as a Premier League number one after impressive loan spells away at Portsmouth and Rochdale. Tottenham is hoping that Bazunu will bring his promising performances to their team next season as they seek to strengthen their squad for a successful campaign.
