Christian Pulisic has been excellent for Chelsea since joining the West London club from Borussia Dortmund. The USA international is highly rated at Chelsea. But in 2017, Brad Friedel said that Weston McKennie could be better than Pulisic – and now Tottenham want the Juventus midfielder.
German outlet Sport1 claim Tottenham are battling Bayern Munich for 22-year-old McKennie, who has only been at Juventus for one season. Rated at £26million, Spurs want to bring the versatile USA star to North London. He is a player that Fabio Paratici signed for Juventus 12 months ago.
McKennie is a crucial player at Juve, clocking up 46 outings last season. Speaking four years ago, ex-Tottenham goalkeeper Friedel spoke of McKennie’s potential. He suggested that McKennie has the ability to surpass Chelsea’s Pulisic, and now, Friedel’s old side want to bring him in.
“You’ll se Weston get some game time for Schalke soon,” Friedel said in 2017, on NESN. “A truly outstanding player. If things go the way I think they will, I think we will be talking about someone in the same vain – if not progressing ahead of Christian Pulisic. He is one outstanding talent.”
Tottenham need a midfielder. Moussa Sissoko looks set to leave, Harry Winks looks as though he will be a bit-part player at best. Oliver Skipp, Dele Alli and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are the first-choice trio – but McKennie would easily start above Skipp. He would also provide cover elsewhere.
Most notable at right-back. Spurs have been using Japhet Tanganga, with Serge Aurier potentially going and Matt Doherty struggling at Spurs. McKennie, is progressing further than Pulisic and available for just £26million, is an absolute must for all involved.
