Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to bring Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford to North London this summer. Bamford is in the final year of his contract and while he is more likely to sign, Spurs are keen. Harry Redknapp’s verdict on Bamford will certainly convince a lot of Spurs fans.
Bamford, 27, was sensational for a Leeds side that only gained promotion back to the Premier League in 2020. Scoring 17 goals for the Whites, he almost earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 side – but unfortunately fell short. Now, he is in the final year of his Leeds contract.
The Telegraph claim Leeds are looking to tie down Bamford’s future amid interest from Tottenham – who are considering Bamford as a replacement. Harry Kane continues to be linked with Manchester City. Ex-Spurs boss Redknapp said in October 2020 Bamford was capable of “world class” goals.
Speaking to TalkSPORT after Bamford’s hat-trick against Aston Villa last year, Redknapp said: “Two goals were world class, unbelievable finishes. There is always a question mark about a boy that has been promoted – well he is showing everyone he can. It’s great to see him scoring goals.”
Bamford was excellent for Leeds. Hard-working, scoring goals, creating goals, and leading the line to perfection for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. But that is just it, the system Bielsa plays is perfect for Bamford. Bamford is ideal for Leeds. The two work in tandem. Does he suit Nuno Espirito Santo’s Spurs?
While he might be a good player to come off the bench, Bamford is hardly going to want to be part of a side that is only getting intermittent game time. The Europa Conference League is hardly worthy compensation. Bamford would be a good signing for Spurs but he would be best staying at Leeds.
It is unclear how much Leeds would want for Bamford – who cost Leeds £7million (Mirror) in 2018.
