Tottenham have reportedly set their sights on Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr, who’s someone that received intriguing praise from Gary Lineker a few years ago.
According to Eurosport, Spurs are now looking at the availability of the 23-year-old star.
The report states that newly-promoted Premier League club Watford want to keep him. Therefore, any offer may need to be above £50million.
Sarr’s debut year in English football was during the 2019/20 season and he was unable to prevent Watford suffering relegation from the Premier League. He contributed five goals and six assists during that league campaign.
However, he was pivotal in firing them to automatic promotion last season. The rapid right-winger ended up with 13 goals and 10 assists in the Championship.
The Senegal international has had an eventful first two years in England and he was highlighted by pundit Lineker back in 2018 after a World Cup display for his country.
“Ismaila Sarr could be a future star,” Lineker wrote on Twitter.
He’s still a way off “future star” status, but Eurosport’s fresh report shows how highly he’s now rated a few years down the line.
It’s going to be exciting to see what kind of impact Sarr can have on his return to the Premier League. There is no doubt he’s an exciting forward with great pace, dribbling and directness to his game.
However, paying over £50million for him at this stage looks too big a risk for Spurs.
Lineker did a great job picking him out at the last World Cup and he’d surely love to emulate fellow countryman Sadio Mane by becoming a household name.
For Spurs, they should keep an eye on how he gets on this season. He’s still got three years remaining on his contract at Vicarage Road.
