Tottenham Hotspur Have Joined Newcastle United in the Race to Sign Everton Defender

Everton’s defender Ben Godfrey has emerged as a sought-after player, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United expressing interest in securing his services.

According to a recent report by 90Min, Godfrey, who has found himself lower in the pecking order at Everton, may be on the move in January. Despite being limited to just one appearance in the Premier League this season, the 23-year-old defender has garnered attention from several clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are reportedly at the forefront of the race to sign Godfrey, with both clubs keen on bolstering their defensive options. The report also highlights the interest of other clubs, including Bournemouth, Burnley, Crystal Palace, and Rangers.

With Godfrey potentially on the market, Everton could use the opportunity to raise funds. Tottenham’s interest in the defender stems from their need for additional support in the center-back position, especially following Micky van de Ven’s recent injury against Chelsea. The incident emphasized Spurs’ requirement for more pace in their defensive lineup.

Tottenham’s focus appears to be on homegrown defenders, with Godfrey joining the likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Lloyd Kelly, and Tosin Adarabioyo on their wish list. The pursuit of Godfrey aligns with Spurs’ strategy to reinforce their defensive capabilities and build a solid foundation for success.

It’s worth noting that Everton secured Godfrey for a fee of £20 million in 2020, recognizing his potential during his time at Norwich City. As the January transfer window approaches, the competition for Godfrey’s signature intensifies, setting the stage for potential moves and strategic decisions by Premier League clubs.
