According to reports from Spain, Antonio Conte’s side are continuing to look for defensive reinforcements as they further strengthen their manager’s squad, write the Footballfancast.
And, Lenglet’s name has now emerged as someone who the north London side are following, with the belief that he could potentially return to his best form with the Lilywhites.
While Lenglet may have 15 caps for France to his name and nearly 200 appearances across La Liga and the Champions League, the defender just isn’t what Conte or Spurs need.
His performances for Les Bleus haven’t always been plain sailing, and he showcased some of his defensive liabilities with a wretched display in the last 16 of the EUROs against Switzerland last summer – The Athletic’s Liam Twomey described his defending as being “comically weak”.
Indeed, after being spotted laughing with Robert Lewandowski following Barcelona’s 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich and exit from the Champions League group stages, Spanish TV pundit Jota Jordi slammed the defender.
He said: “By the way, Lenglet, if you see this, you have no shame. You have no shame. Because you’re wearing a badge that represents millions of people. Today, we have cried. Today, we haven’t been able to sleep. Today, we haven’t had dinner.
“And you were laughing for a minute after the game ended. So you have no shame. If it were up to me, Lenglet wouldn’t come back on the same plane. He’d come back walking. And when he gets to Barcelona, he has to go to the club offices to cancel his contract.”
You can only imagine the kind of wrath Lenglet would face should he show anything like that at Spurs, with Conte not someone to suffer any fools.
Not only is he someone whose injury problems make him wholly unreliable as someone who Spurs could count upon week-in and week-out, but his attitude also comes into question too.
The £70k-a-week earning ace’s arrival would surely have the Spurs boss fuming.
