Tottenham fans make the same joke as Gareth Bale returns to Real Madrid training

Gareth Bale has returned to Real Madrid training after spending the last year on loan with Tottenham Hotspur.

Bale had a mixed season on loan back at Spurs from Real Madrid. Although he added 16 goals to his Tottenham tally, he struggled for regular starts in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho.

And despite his upturn in form towards the end of the season, new Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has ruled out another return to north London, after simply stating: “He will not be part of our squad.”

The decision is ultimately one that had to be made as Espirito Santo and Fabio Paratici are set on rebuilding Tottenham in the hope that they get back to being competitive like they were under Mauricio Pochettino.

Nevertheless, Bale is also not keen on returning to Spurs for a third time, and made it clear to the club that he’d be going back to Madrid once his Euro 2020 campaign with Wales ended.

And while still on loan at the speaking to the media in March 2021 the Welshman admitted to using the club as a means of improving his match fitness ahead of Euro 2020 with Wales.

“There’s no distraction for me. I think the main reason I came to Spurs this year was to play football first and foremost,” he said.

“Going into the Euros I wanted to be match fit. The original plan was to do a season at Spurs and after the Euros still have a year left at Real Madrid. My plan is to go back, that’s as far as I have planned.”

That being said, some fans had hoped to see him back in Lilywhite once more, not only because he’s one of their best ever players, but also because they believe he’ll continue to be disgruntled in Madrid.

Just take a look at what’s been said on Twitter.

@Tafadzwa_One said: “Real Madrid isn’t really the best place to go, look at Cristiano he is more appreciated in Manchester than he is in Madrid.

@rosspeterson81 said : “Figured he’d go back once Ancelotti came back there.”

It looks as though Bale will be given a fresh chance under new Los Blancos boss, Carlo Ancelotti and hopefully, we’ll get to see him firing again.
