Tottenham Eye Eberechi Eze But Release Clause Payment Unlikely, Says Journalist

Spurs have long been linked with Eberechi Eze, who reportedly has a release clause of up to £68 million in his contract. However, journalist Ben Jacobs believes it’s unlikely Tottenham will be willing to meet that hefty price tag.

“Nobody’s made any direct contact yet with Crystal Palace,” Jacobs told reporters. “So I think this is a deal that will require a little bit more patience.”

While Eze himself may not be pushing for a move at this stage, the lure of a bigger club with European competition is undeniable. “When the likes of Tottenham or Arsenal come calling, they can clearly offer a pay rise and European football,” Jacobs added.

Crystal Palace, though “a little bit nervous” about potential interest, are confident they’re well-protected by the release clause. “It’s unlikely that either Arsenal or Spurs will see value in triggering the release clause,” Jacobs concluded.

This suggests Tottenham may attempt to negotiate a lower transfer fee before committing to such a significant outlay.
