Tottenham can’t lose hope over “amazing” £44m-rated star and must revive interest

Tottenham were thwarted in their attempts to sign Pau Torres during the summer transfer window. According to The Sunday Mirror (Print Edition; 5/9: page 76), the central defender suggested that Spurs didn’t excite him enough.

The 24-year-old was the subject of interest from several clubs in the summer. Nuno Espirito Santo was keen on landing the centre-back, with the Villarreal man bang in form last season.

He helped Unai Emery’s team lift the Europa League last season. During 2021/22 the Spaniards will embark on a Champions League campaign and Torres will relish that challenge.

Tottenham did bolster their defensive ranks this summer. Cristian Romero checked in from Atalanta and he does look like being a strong signing for the club.

El Periodico Mediterraneo claims that the Villarreal star is valued at £44 million. In today’s market that doesn’t seem like bad business and interested parties will continue monitoring the situation.

Unai Emery loves the defender. He previously told Football London that he’s an ‘amazing player’, backing him to have a really bright future in the game.

It’s definitely going to be tricky. The ball, however, is in their court. If Espirito Santo can get Tottenham back in the major European competitions, the club becomes attractive again.

Right now, who can begrudge Torres his desire to stay with Villarreal? He worked tirelessly last season to help them reach the Champions League. Now, he will face games against Atalanta, Manchester United and Young Boys in the competition.

Torres would be a stunning signing. Tottenham have added Romero but Espirito Santo might look to upgrade Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez in the coming transfer windows.
