Tim Howard has recently expressed his admiration for Tottenham Hotspur’s current head coach, Ange Postecoglou, in an exclusive interview with NBC Sports. Howard’s initial skepticism regarding Postecoglou’s managerial abilities has been completely reversed, given the impressive performance of Tottenham under his guidance this season.
As Tottenham prepared to face Fulham in a crucial Monday night fixture, the stakes were high, with Spurs having the opportunity to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League. Under Ange Postecoglou’s management, the North London club has been on a winning spree, securing victory in six out of their first eight league matches.
In the early stages of Postecoglou’s tenure, many football enthusiasts, including Howard, anticipated a sluggish start for the Australian coach. However, Postecoglou has defied expectations by quickly revitalizing the Spurs squad in a matter of months.
Tim Howard, who previously harbored doubts about Postecoglou’s tactical approach, confessed that he had expected the coach’s style of play to be exposed in the demanding Premier League. Howard specifically noted Tottenham’s narrow defensive setup as a potential vulnerability.
“I think all around they don’t have the quality [to win the league],” Howard said. “Maddison’s got off to a flyer since he got there. Son does what he does every season, I think he’s brilliant. Kulusevski on the other side, really strong up front.”
Yet, contrary to Howard’s expectations, Ange Postecoglou’s “Ange ball” has proven effective in the English top-flight. Tottenham’s narrow defensive shape has not been exploited as Howard had anticipated. Consequently, Howard has become a firm believer in Postecoglou’s coaching style and is impressed with the team’s performance.
“The players have bought into it, and I think the young players he’s given opportunities to have thrived in the formation and tactically.”
One of the key takeaways from Tottenham’s matches this season has been their entertaining and dynamic approach to games. While they have had moments of fortune, Postecoglou’s side has shown excellence during the early part of the campaign.
