“This game is a final”- Nuno raises the stakes for Tottenham’s cup clash against Burnley

In his pre-match comments (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo shared his sentiments ahead of the EFL Cup clash with Burnley.

The Lilywhites have struggled to maintain their consistency this season but the Carabao Cup could be a great opportunity for them to get things going. The North London club are coming off the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss to West Ham United courtesy of some sleazy defending and a Michail Antonio header.

The Clarets have also struggled in the Premier League and are currently sitting in the relegation zone. Sean Dyche would be hoping to get the ball rolling with a Cup tie so that Burnley can still salvage the season early on before it is too late.

Nuno spoke about his expectations from the match. He also highlighted that it is a great match for them to improve their game:

“It’s going to be a tough match like we expect because Burnley is a good team but it’s a good chance for us to improve, knowing that the Carabao Cup is an important competition for us. We have to go game-by-game and then this game is a final. It’s a chance for us to improve our game, to compete well knowing that we have to manage some situations.”

The North London side have really been struggling to create a sustainable attacking threat. Harry Kane has struggled to get going in the PL this season and his only goal came against Newcastle United. This means that the Tottenham outfit have struggled to create any substantial chances regularly.

The Portuguese manager remains optimistic about his squad. Their tepid performances in the UEFA Europa League as well as the Premier League this campaign means that domestic competitions may be their best bet for any kind of silverware. Nuno would be hoping that his men can deliver the necessary firepower against the Clarets
