‘Things are picking up steam’ – Fabrizio Romano expands on all rumours regarding Harry Kane’s future

In case you’re one of the few that still believes that the bombshell news that dropped yesterday — that Harry Kane wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer — is either fake, or driven by the media, I have bad news for you. Noted football transfer rumor mogul Fabrizio Romano, one of the most connected men in football, has confirmed that Kane wants out, and that Manchester City are expected to make a bid.

This is picking up a lot of steam, and quickly. The Athletic has reported that Kane’s desire to leave has been known and understood by the club for months, and that Kane did not have any recent talks with Daniel Levy that precipitated yesterday’s news. In fact, the leak to the press was almost certainly made by Harry’s agent and brother, Charlie Kane to turn up the temperature and push through a move. Other reporting suggests that Kane wants to leave BEFORE this summer’s EUROs, which seems extremely unlikely.

But if Kane goes, his options are few, and Tottenham hold a lot of leverage based on the three years left on his contract. Kane is said to want to stay in England if possible, and Manchester City would be his most likely destination if only because City appears to be the only club that can a) afford him, b) be a clear step up from his Spurs situation, and c) is not Chelsea. On the other hand, if Kane puts in a transfer request (which he has not done yet) or otherwise goes to what we at Carty Free like to call the “jerk mattress,” all bets are off.

Tottenham play Aston Villa today in front of 10,000 fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. While this is obviously going to be in the front of the news for the foreseeable future, based on the reports that are coming out it’s quite possible that today could be the last time that Kane will play in front of Tottenham supporters while wearing a Spurs home shirt.
