‘They’re going to push on’ – Dean Jones has revealed ‘next big target’ at Tottenham

Dean Jones has claimed on The Done Deal Show that once this round of international fixtures are done, Tottenham Hotspur will push for Alessandro Bastoni, writes the TIF.

It’s clear that Antonio Conte wishes to add more depth and quality to his back line that managed to keep 13 clean sheets during his time in charge this season with a full back converted into a centre back in the form of Ben Davies.

While Davies showed his defensive ability under Conte and also recently for Wales during their win against Ukraine putting in some important blocks, he doesn’t appear to be the long-term answer at Spurs with Italian international Bastoni continuing to be linked.

Jones believes that Bastoni is a top target and Spurs will keep pushing for him once the Nations League games are concluded.

(22:10) “In the meantime, Tottenham have obviously got their eye on the Italian market anyway it’s where all their knowledge is and it’s where they’re going to kind of look to prove again after having success in the loan market with players from there in January.

Bastoni is one that they’re going to push on with like it hasn’t pushed on obviously in the last week it’s been internationals and all the rest of it and this isn’t one that has gathered any momentum since we last spoke.

But I said then, I believe that Bastoni, on the back of Perisic, will be the next big target and I still believe that is the next big one that they’re going to go after.

I don’t think is a deal that can be done tomorrow, but once this week’s clear, when all the internationals start to clear off, then I do think that this is one that Tottenham will pursue.”

The Inter Milan defender would be the second Serie A recruit of the summer already for Conte, who brought in Perisic as his first signing of the post-season and linking up once again with Bastoni, someone he gave 33 appearances to during their Serie A winning season, could too good for the player to turn down.

At just 22 but also a full international, Bastoni would be a player that could likely slot in immediately and make an impact but also be someone that could be part of Spurs’ defence going forward for years to come.
