After lengthy negotiations, Djed Spence did arrive at Tottenham on Friday to undergo a medical.
Middlesbrough head coach Chris Wilder said the young Englishman’s transition was delayed because the Spurs were the only contenders for the defender’s services.
The transfer fee is rumored to be £12.5 million, with bonuses included potentially raising the price to £20 million.
The Middlesbrough boss commented on this decision to let the player go to the North London club.
“It’s a boost for everyone. There has been far too much talk about it, but these deals just don’t happen overnight. It’s a big number for a player that has not played for us.”
“He had a fabulous season [at Nottingham Forest], everyone knows that. Tottenham were the only show in town, so they could hang out, which they have done.”
