Tottenham Hotspur are progressing in signing Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet. It is reported by Sport. According to the source, negotiations have been going on for a long time. The Spanish club manager Xavi does not count on the French defender, so he is ready to part with him as well as release pressure on Barca’s current payroll.
Clement himself, reportedly, is not sure of the idea to move to England, but wants to leave his current club. In the near future, he may have a dialogue with Antonio Conte.
Lenglet, 27, joined the Catalan team in 2018 after a €36-million transfer from Sevilla. Since then, the defender has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 159 appearances across all competitions. The agreement between Clément and Barcelona expires in 2026.
Earlier it was reported that the defender of the French national team could be signed by Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently the second favorite to sign Clément Lenglet. Spurs want the Frenchman on loan for two seasons, paying his full salary with an option to buy.
At the moment, the team that has shown the most progress in the transfer of the 27-year-old footballer is Marseille. Though some reports of today claim that their interest has significantly cooled down.
