‘Surprised me a lot’ – Conte has admitted that Spurs player has shocked him since he took charge

Antonio Conte has admitted to Alfredu Pedulla that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has shocked him since he took charge, writes the HITC.

Kane’s goalscoring form actually hasn’t been particularly impressive this term.

The Tottenham striker still only has one Premier League goal all season and he is yet to hit the back of the net outside of cup competition since Conte took charge.

However, the Italian boss has immediately taken a shine to Kane.

He has twice defended Kane’s lack of goals in recent weeks and recently said that Tottenham simply cannot function without the striker right now, due to his quality.

Now, Conte has praised Kane in the media once again.

And the Spurs boss admits he’s been surprised by 28-year-old’s attitude since he took charge, as he always makes himself available to play.

“I have coached several top players in my career and now I have Kane, a true champion,” he said.

“He surprised me a lot, from all points of view: he makes himself available to the team despite being one of the greatest in the world.

“For me it is a great pleasure to have him in the team, to be able to count on a player of this level, with impressive technical qualities. I hope to be able to contribute to its growth.”

It remains to be seen now whether Conte’s arrival at Tottenham could help Kane stay.

There was a well documented saga linking Kane with Manchester City over the summer, but no move materialised and his form since has hardly encouraged huge bids.

Conte’s appointment at Tottenham does at least prove to Kane that his current employers do have the ambition to deliver the trophies that he desperately craves.

But whether the former Inter Milan boss’s arrival has happened too late to convince him to stick around remains to be seen.
