According to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News), Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest has been proposed to Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in a potential summer transfer. He is currently out injured, which seems to have played a part in the decision to offer him to several Premier League clubs, writes the THAB.
Dest is currently contracted at Camp Nou until 2025, but that long contract appears to have not secured his future with Barca. He has been offered to Tottenham, the Blues and Manchester United as well ahead of the summer transfer window.
Furthermore, the US international has supposedly been made aware that he will be allowed to leave the Catalans at the end of this season. However, in a blow to Spurs, the defender has a preference for Man United, which could be problematic if Tottenham does decide to accept this opportunity.
The 21-year-old is still an exciting prospect indeed, even if he has been inconsistent since his move to the Blaugrana club back in 2020. However, following Xavi Hernandez’s arrival, he has finally been able to perform at his best self regularly before suffering an injury halting his progress.
Hence, signing the North American could be a great opportunity, although the North Londoners could be in a bit of a dilemma regarding the right wing-back position. It was clear how reinforcements were necessary for that role back in and around January. However, things have changed a lot, which has cast doubts on our needs.
Matt Doherty was sensational and had arguably been our best wing-back before suffering the unfortunate season-ending injury. Emerson Royal finally seems to have overcome his struggles looking at his strong performances against top-class opposition like Liverpool and Arsenal in particular.
Hence, doubts can be raised about whether Antonio Conte’s side needs to accept this offer or not in the future. Fabio Paratici must discuss the subject with the man in charge and see whether Conte demands Dest’s signing in the summer transfer window.
However, since other areas also need to be bolstered after this campaign, perhaps it is for the best if we stick with Doherty and Emerson moving forward. Then again, we have to wait and see what stance Tottenham take regarding this opportunity.
If Spurs accept the proposal, then they will have some challenges to overcome with Dest currently favouring the Red Devils. Perhaps we can use the prospect of Champions League football to change his mind but let’s wait and see how this situation develops in the coming weeks.
