Spurs Are Now the Only Club Showing Interest in £50M Star

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly the frontrunners in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Jacobs, speaking on the “London is Blue Podcast,” confirmed that Spurs are “very much still eyeing a move” for the 24-year-old England international. This comes despite some Tottenham fans tiring of the prolonged transfer saga, which has been rumbling on for the past year.

“There’s nothing doing” for potential moves to Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid, Jacobs explained. “Villa can’t afford Gallagher at the moment,” while Atletico’s offer of €20m fell far short of Chelsea’s valuation.

This leaves Tottenham as the only serious contender, despite the recent arrival of midfielder Archie Gray at the North London club. However, a significant gap remains between the two clubs’ valuations.

“Their valuation is the same as it was 12 months ago, somewhere around £35m,” Jacobs noted, “whereas Chelsea are saying Gallagher should go for a similar price to Mason Mount, a £55m package.”

Jacobs suggested a compromise price of £40-45m could be enough to secure Gallagher, but Chelsea are currently holding firm at their higher valuation.

“We wait and see if something gives,” Jacobs concluded. “Right now the situation is as it has been for months. Nothing advanced with a new Gallagher deal, Chelsea want £50-55m, Tottenham are likely to bid.”
