Speaking in an Instagram post (h/t Shields Gazette), former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark has lashed out at reports claiming that his son, Bobby Clark was offered to Tottenham, who have rejected the chance to sign him, informs ToTheLaneAndBack.

Bobby Clark, 16, became the youngest ever player to represent the Magpies’ Under-18 side when he was just 14 years and 206 days old and has also represented the England national team at the Under-16 level. The midfielder has been making all the right noises at the youth level and had been previously linked with the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Recent reports, however, claimed that Clark had been offered to Tottenham as he hadn’t been receiving the amount of game-time he was hoping for, at Newcastle United.

This was followed by speculations of Spurs supposedly rejecting the chance of signing the teenager. His father, Lee, who is the manager of Sudanese club Al-Merrikh, has lashed out at these reports. (h/t Shields Gazette)

“Sorry, I debated whether to post this. But I felt I had to as we (are) talking about a 16-year-old boy here. My son. Whoever the Football Insider (in my day a source close to the individual) they have got this 100%, completely wrong.

“He has not been offered to Tottenham Hotspur, so subsequently they have not turned down the chance to sign him. No idea where this story came from, but it is typical social media nonsense – 99.9% of stories published are not true. Sorry, I deal in reality, not fake news.”

The reaction is understandable given the kind of impact that these speculations can have on a budding youngster still just 16 years old. Clark has come out and set the record straight with regard to his son’s situation, insisting that he was never offered to Tottenham.
