Sky Sports Pundit Says Tottenham Fans Would Absolutely Love 43-Year-Old Boss if Appointed

Tottenham Hotspur fans would be delighted if Roberto De Zerbi became the club’s new manager, according to Tim Sherwood. The former Tottenham boss spoke to Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday as Spurs continue their search for a permanent successor to Antonio Conte. Daniel Levy may not have intended to make a swift appointment, but it is hard to argue that everything has gone to plan.

Ryan Mason is currently the interim to the interim manager after Cristian Stellini was also sacked. Several names have reportedly taken themselves out of the frame to take over in the summer, including Julian Nagelsmann, who BBC Sport reported on Friday is not in the running for the post.

This news has worried some Tottenham fans, including former goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who suggested the club not targeting Nagelsmann is concerning. With the future of the managerial position at Tottenham in question, Sherwood believes De Zerbi would be a popular choice for Spurs supporters.

“I think he’s incredible. I think the way he plays progressive football…I think the Tottenham fans would appreciate that,” Sherwood told Soccer Saturday. He also noted that leaving Brighton for Tottenham may not seem particularly appealing for De Zerbi right now, given how well the Seagulls are performing. Brighton are now just two points behind Spurs with three games in hand, and are already preparing for the summer to kick on next year.

Tottenham fans may not mind seeing Brighton overtake them in the table on Sunday, given the possibility of De Zerbi staying with the Seagulls. It remains to be seen whether Levy can tempt the Italian to North London, but he would need to pull out all the stops to do so. As the search for a new permanent manager continues, De Zerbi’s name is sure to be mentioned more frequently as a potential candidate.
