‘See him back out on the sidelines is a bit of a surprise’ – Paul Brown says of Tottenham star’s potential

Correspondent Paul Brown spoke to GiveMeSport, where he talked about the latest Tottenham news ahead of the Champions League match against Sporting.

According to the journalist, Tottenham right-back Matt Doherty may be unhappy with the lack of playing time under Italian specialist Antonio Conte.

The 30-year-old defender has struggled to adapt to the Italian’s playing model. Past coaches in the form of Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo did not use the Irish national team player. Fortunately, however, the Irishman was able to play under Conte and managed to show his best qualities.

However, after a medial collateral ligament injury, his season ended in April. After that, the player is recovering and gaining the right conditioning for Antonio Conte’s playing system.

According to Brown, Doherty won’t get much playing time this season, suggesting.

“It took Doherty quite a long while to convince Conte and, by the end of the season, he was holding him up as an example of someone who had forced their way back into the team and come back from adversity.

“So, to see him back out on the sidelines is a bit of a surprise and I’m sure he’s quite shocked by it too.”
