Dennis Cirkin has posted an emotional message on Instagram after the left-back completed a move from Tottenham to Sunderland. The teenage defender came through the ranks at Spurs, initially joining aged just nine. Ryan Sessegnon and others have reacted, as Cirkin leaves Tottenham.
Cirkin, 19, failed to make his competitive senior debut for Tottenham and that is likely to have played a part in his decision to leave. A regular in the Under-23 side, he clocked up 21 appearances for the second string. But he did appear on the senior bench last season on two occasions.
The England Under-19 ace has penned a three-year deal at League One club Sunderland – an excellent move to a big club for the left-back. But it sees Cirkin end a 10-year spell at Tottenham having come through the Spurs academy. He has posted an enormously touching message on Instagram.
Three first-teamers vying for one place in the side means Cirkin’s chances were small – even in the Conference League. So, signing for Sunderland is a move that suits all parties. Sessegnon wished him well, as did the likes of Troy Parrott and Alfie Devine. Harvey White told Cirkin he will be missed.
