A report from Football London details exactly what Tottenham staff think of Nuno Espirito Santo – in comparison to his predecessors, Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs have enjoyed an excellent pre-season, beating Arsenal on Sunday. It seems Nuno is really impressing Tottenham staff.
There is a sense of optimism at Tottenham – despite the ongoing Harry Kane sage. The rebirth of Dele Alli, the return of attacking football under Nuno. The return of fans and the excellent start made by Fabio Paratici is exciting. Bryan Gil, Cristian Romano and Pierluigi Gollini are all excellent additions.
Especially, Romero. Nuno will obviously have his say. But the Portuguese gaffer is tasked with getting the best out of his players at his disposal. During pre-season, Spurs have won three of five games – including a 1-0 win over Arsenal and a 2-2 draw with Chelsea. Nuno is catching the eye.
FL say that Tottenham staff see a mix of Mourinho and Pochettino in Nuno: “He is seen by staff as somewhere in betweenMourinho and Pochettino in the way he works and acts. He’s set off confidently and many of the Tottenham players appear to be responding,” Alasdair Gold writes.
While Tottenham enjoyed enormous success under Pochettino, towards the latter stages they conceded too many goals. Mourinho looked to tighten things up at the back, but Spurs fans fell out of love with his style when form dipped. Tottenham need a mix, but also a sprinkling of guile.
The combination of Nuno and Paratici provides that. Nuno will want his side to defend but judging by how pre-season has gone – he will also want quick counter attacks and high tempo, a clear of mix of Mourinho and Pochettino. The guile comes from the signings made by Paratici.
