Report: West Ham want German star from London club

CalcioMercato report that West Ham are taking a look at Brentford star Vitaly Janelt after his stunning brace for the Bees against Chelsea on Saturday. The German midfielder was superb, as Brentford won 4-1.

Janelt, 23, joined Brentford for a fee of just £500,000 (Sport Witness) in the summer of 2020 from German side Bochum. He was an instant hit, playing 47 times in only his first season for Thomas Frank’s men.

Helping them gain promotion to the Premier League, Janelt has remained a crucial part of Frank’s side – clocking up 29 appearances in all competitions. He has missed just six of Brentford’s 31 Premier League games this term.

His brace against Chelsea on Saturday was arguably the highlight of his career – but it has other clubs looking. West Ham are in need of a midfielder, with Mark Noble due to retire and Alex Kral only on loan.

The 10-time Germany Under-21 international has been sensational for Brentford in the two years he has spent at the club. The Bees are well-positioned regarding his future too, with a contract until June 2026.

But a move to West Ham will be tempting for Janelt, even if he is not first choice. The Hammers look as if they will be in the Europa League next season, giving the Brentford star plenty of opportunity for game time.

Janelt missed Brentford’s 2-1 away win over West Ham earlier in the season – but Hammers fans will get a closer look when West Ham face Brentford on Sunday. He would be a good signing for West Ham.
