Calciomercato. It reports that Tottenham Hotspur are looking on as Napoli struggle to agree a new contract with Lorenzo Insigne.
Gazzetta Dello Sport reported on Monday evening that Insigne wants around £114,000-a-week to pen fresh terms at Stadio San Paolo.
The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer. And unsurprisingly, Napoli want to keep the forward, who has two goals and three assists in Serie A this season.
With an agreement yet to be reached, it is clear that Napoli are reluctant to meet their captain’s demands.
But Calciomercato. It has outlined just how big the gulf between the two parties currently is – and it is very good news for Tottenham.
According to the latest report, Napoli have never offered more than £57,000-a-week. Obviously, that is around half what Insigne is looking for.
Calciomercato. It adds that Spurs are watching on.
Insigne signing a new contract with Napoli can surely not be ruled out. He is a legendary figure at the club, making over 400 appearances in all competitions.
But the gap is an encouraging one for Tottenham. Napoli will have to make a giant leap to go near Insigne’s demands.
And Spurs can, of course, start negotiating a pre-contract deal in January.
Admittedly, a resolution in January is unlikely, unless he can reach an agreement with Napoli.
But Tottenham’s presence puts some pressure on the Italian club.
What is clear is that Napoli have a lot of work to do to ensure that Insigne goes nowhere.
