Spurs have won out big time in the race to sign highly-rated Metz star, Pape Matar Sarr, with Fabio Paratici beating off the likes of Manchester United and City.
Sarr is one of the most coveted midfield talents in Europe at the moment after impressing for Metz last season. He made 25 appearances, and even scored his first goal against Brest.
At just 18, a number of Europe’s top clubs have wanted to land Sarr but it is Spurs and Paratici who have got the deal done, according to ESPN.
ESPN claim a deal has been struck for around £13m altogether. It will see Spurs pay around £8.5m up front, with a further £4.5m to come in add-ons down the line.
Sarr is already regarded as a star in Senegal and has even been compared to Bosnian midfielder, Miralem Pjanic.
“I immediately said to myself that he was a top player, with a very high-level (with regards to) reading and analysing the game. He is (like) Miralem Pjanic,” Metz’s academy coach Olivier Perrin is quoted as saying.
This is a huge piece of news for Spurs. Not only have they got one of Europe’s premier young talents. But they’ve also beaten off a number of top clubs to do so.
It’s a huge boost for Paratici and also the club as a whole. It proves they are an attractive package to young players, which is vital.
At less than £15m, Spurs really are getting themselves a gem of a signing here who could excel for years to come.
