Report: Lyon really want to sign West Ham man, Moyes could sell for £15m

Lyon are allegedly prioritising a move to sign West Ham United centre-back Issa Diop in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from highly respected French website L’Equipe who claims that the French side are eyeing a move to bring the 25-year-old to the Groupama Stadium before the start of next season.

West Ham paid £25 million to sign the 6ft 4in defender from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 (The Express).

The 25-year-old began his Hammers career in fine fashion. He was completely dominant in the Premier League and drew huge praise from fans and pundits alike.

However, the defender has regressed badly over the past 18 months or so and is now West Ham’s fourth choice centre-back.

David Moyes is prepared to let him leave the London Stadium this summer for around £15 million according to The Daily Mail.

Diop is clearly not good enough to be playing regular Premier League football and it seems as though his days in East London could well be numbered…

L’Equipe claims that the towering centre-back is a target for the Ligue 1 outfit.

Lyon and West Ham will meet next Thursday night in the Europa League but it is unlikely that the French side will get a first-hand view of Diop in action.

Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma are Moyes’s first choice partnership at the moment and unless one of those two players suffer an injury, the 25-year-old will be warming the bench.

We think that if West Ham have the chance to sell Diop to Lyon this summer then we shouldn’t think twice about it.

The former Toulouse man just doesn’t have what it takes to succeed in the Premier League and perhaps Ligue 1 will be better suited to him.

If the Hammers manage to get £15 million or more for Diop it will be very good business, despite the fact that we paid more than that to sign him four years ago.

The centre-back’s fall from grace has been so drastic that it would have been no surprise had we struggled to shift him in the summer transfer window.

It seems as though Lyon are set to do us a huge favour in the transfer market, however. Hopefully they prove to be just as accommodating in the Europa League as well!
