Jose Mourinho told Alfie Devine that he reminded him of Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes when he was at Tottenham Hotspur, the Athletic say.
Devine was one of the youngsters who Mourinho took a particular shine to while he was at Tottenham.
The 16-year-old became Spurs’ youngest ever goalscorer last season, when he found the back of the net against Marine.
Devine has now signed a professional contract at Spurs, after training with the first-team for much of last year.
And the Athletic say that Mourinho said to Devine that he saw shades of Fernandes in him.
That is a huge compliment to Devine, given the impact that Fernandes has had since arriving at United.
If Devine could develop into a player of similar capabilities then it would be a major boost to Spurs.
Tottenham landed the teenager cheaply, as they took advantage of Wigan Athletic’s financial struggles.
Devine has apparently really caught the eye of Spurs’ coaching staff already on the training ground, with the club having hugely high hopes for him.
And it will be interesting to see if Nuno is prepared to give him game time this term, in his first season in charge at Tottenham.
