Report: £60m Spurs and Arsenal target delivers body blow to Edu and Paratici

Spurs and Arsenal both wanted to sign Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez, during the summer. But any hopes they had of resurrecting that deal seem to be all but over now.

But according to The Mirror, which cites reports from Tuttosport in Italy, Inter are hoping to tie Martinez down to a new deal. Crucially, that deal will not include a release-clause this time around.

News of Martinez’s new deal will be a blow for the likes of Edu and Fabio Paratici. Bot the Spurs and Arsenal transfer gurus will have been keeping tabs on the Argentinian striker ahead of next summer.

In fact, it was only in August that reports claimed that Spurs had indeed agreed a big-money deal worth around £60m to sign Martinez. Of course, the striker never made the move, and has started the season well with Inter.

Martinez has taken up the mantle left by Romelu Lukaku. So far, he’s doing the business, with three in three Serie A games so far.

If either side had landed Martinez, then it would have been quite the signing for the North London pair. But any deal always looked hard to pull off, and now it seems almost impossible.

There’s little point putting time and effort into a player who is never going to come through the doors. Next summer will be a big one again for Arsenal and Spurs, and they’ll want to act quickly and decisively in the market.

If that means moving on from Martinez now, then that might actually prove to be a good thing.
