Report: £11m star set to sign for West Ham after receiving assurances

A new report claims £11m star Alphonse Areola is finally set to sign for West Ham in a permanent deal after receiving assurances.

Areola was a big hit at West Ham during a season-long loan from PSG.

So much so that supporters were certain West Ham taking up their option to make the move permanent was a mere formality at the end of the season.

That has not – as yet – been the case, though, with the Hammers also being linked with the likes of Nick Pope.

The Times claimed last week that West Ham had finalised a decision on Areola and reported target Pope as Moyes closed in on his first signing.

According to The Times West Ham will sign Areola, who has become a firm favourite at the club, permanently rather than move for Pope.

That would cost West Ham around £11m according to previous claims from Jeunes Footeux although recent reports state the figure could be even less.

One week on, there has still been no announcement over Areola with the summer window officially opening on Friday and Moyes having much work to do.

There has been speculation that Areola could be lured back to former club Fulham or elsewhere with the promise of being the number one goalkeeper having been West Ham’s European and cup stopper last season (Football League World).

Now a new report claims £11m star Areola is set to sign for West Ham in permanent deal after receiving assurances from David Moyes.

According to Claret and Hugh, West Ham are closing in on securing the signing of Areola from PSG and intend to give him the chance to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.

“We have been told that the stopper is now set to have the chance to make the No.1 shirt his own,” Claret and Hugh claim.

“Areola asked to be given such an opportunity in talks with the Hammers and we understand that has been agreed, after Lukasz Fabianski saw his abilities questioned at the back end of the 2021/22 campaign.”

    Fabianski turns 38 next season.

And while he has been a fantastic servant to West Ham with his calm, solid and consistent performances, Areola’s presence, distribution, kicking, agility and reactions are superior.

At 29, Areola could also feasibly be West Ham’s number one for the next five or six seasons.
