Player admits fault and expresses regret for forcing exit from Tottenham

    Nabil Bentaleb started his football journey with USL Dunkerque before joining Tottenham academy. Although his six-year stint with the club was a mix of highs and lows, he eventually left for Schalke 04 on loan in 2016, which was later made permanent for €19m.

    After playing for Schalke until 2020, he briefly returned to English football on loan with Newcastle before going back to Germany. In 2021, he was without a club until Angers SCO offered him a chance to revive his career, where he is performing well despite the team’s struggles.

    In an interview with La Gazette du Fennec, the 28-year-old midfielder admitted that it was his own decision to force an exit from Tottenham in 2016. He rushed and did everything he could to leave the club, even though they were counting on him. Looking back, he would have stayed with the team.

    During his time at Tottenham, he played 66 games across all competitions, scored one goal, and provided six assists.
