In conversation with Football Insider (h/t Birmingham Live), former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has tipped Aston Villa to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been struggling for minutes with the first team and a move away from the club in order to gain some regular playing time again could be on the cards. The English midfielder has made only 2 appearances in the Premier League so far.
With other midfielders gaining prominence there could be a very thin window of opportunities to prove himself again this season with the Lilywhites. A loan move to any club in the Premier League where he can get quality game time could be welcomed. This may help the Tottenham midfielder in making a suitable impression and also regain some of his confidence.
Noel Whelan stated his point of view on the clubs and how they could make a move for Harry Winks to add more depth in that position:
“I think both Villa and Everton will assess where they are in January. Both sides have depth in his position at the moment. But you never know, there could be a situation with injury or with form which could mean they go back in and get Winks on a loan deal. You can never have enough backup, but Winks will want a loan during which he can play regularly.”
Nuno Espirito Santo is still trying to find the perfect balance in his team and tactics with the Lilywhites. Winks could hugely benefit from a temporary move away from the club in order to make an impact. A move to a club like Aston Villa could not only help him find his feet again but also put help him impress the Portuguese manager from a distance.
