Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s comments suggest Nuno has lost dressing room

Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s scathing post-match comments suggest Nuno Espirito Santo has lost the dressing room following the team’s dreadful 3-0 defeat to Manchester United. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford gave the Red Devils a well-deserved victory on Saturday.

But it was the nature of the loss which has left Spurs fans so furious, with the side failing to register a shot on target for the first time at home in the Premier League since December 2013.

Supporters chanted ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ when Nuno decided to swap Lucas Moura for Steven Bergwijn in the second-half, and the Portuguese boss is beginning to look like he is running out of ideas for how to turn things around.

Speaking after the game, Hojbjerg did not hold back in his assessment of just how badly Spurs had played – and he seemed to want to say more before perhaps wisely opting to stop himself.

Talking to BBC Sport, he said: “It’s unacceptable. At home, where there should be fireworks and there should be determination, the character wasn’t there at all.

“And, yeah… I’d better not say too much…”

Hojbjerg was far from the only critic of Spurs, with Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane slamming their style of play as he watched proceedings unfold.

“Spurs are boring,” he said. “They are boring to watch. You’re looking for a bit of urgency. Nothing. I couldn’t believe how bad they were.

“Going back to when l played, we always used to say ‘it’s Spurs, you will beat Spurs’. This Spurs side was desperate.
