Phil Thompson says Spurs ace Steven Bergwijn has really impressed him so far this season.
The Dutchman joined Tottenham for around £27million in January 2020 and hit the ground running in north London.
Bergwijn scored on his debut as Spurs ran out 2-0 winners at Manchester City in February last.
However, the 23-year-old was largely reduced to substitute appearances during his first full season in the Premier League.
New Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has given Bergwijn three consecutive starts in the league and the player has repaid his faith.
The former PSV ace has been a constant threat going forward, helping Spurs launch counter-attacks thanks to his pace and ball control.
And Liverpool legend Thompson was eager to single Bergwijn out for praise on the Where’s Jeff podcast.
“I’ll tell you a player who has impressed me quite a little bit, is Bergwijn,” said Thompson, as quoted by football.london.
“He’s looking like the player Spurs thought they were getting.
“His performances these first three games, he’s really turned it on.”
Tottenham have hit the ground running this season, with three clean-sheet wins, including against Manchester City.
Bergwijn didn’t have the best time at Spurs prior to this season but now he’s showing what he’s capable of.
And once Harry Kane is firing on all cylinders once again, Tottenham could have a truly feared front line on their hands.
