‘Option’ – AC admits that a £23m-rated Spurs player could have a different role this season

Speaking to Football.London, Tottenham’s manager Antonio Conte revealed that he considers the changing of role for Lucas Moura next season. The Italian specialist has done this trick before with Ivan Perisic and Victor Moses.

The conversion of the latter was so immense that most Chelsea fans considered Victor the key contributor to Chelsea’s winning season, while the Blues were forced to tie Moses with a new 5-year deal to lure the European clubs away.

The Brazil international Lucas Moura played a winger through-out his career and turns 30-year-old in August. However, the two friendlies in South Korea showed that Lucas has the required potency to cover the RWB pressure.

Conte said: “I spoke with Lucas and I think that this will be a good option for me and in the past I converted Perisic in that position.

“[Victor] Moses was the same. [Antonio] Candreva was the same. Before a winger and then to become a wing-back. For sure he has great quality Lucas and I think this could be a good option.

“The most important thing is that the player has to be 100 per cent sure to do it, but he is available and Lucas Moura for us is a great resource because he can play in many roles. He can play behind the striker, on the right, on the left, as a wing back.”

In our opinion, Lucas’ appearance as RWB during the pre-season tour simply dispels any doubts regarding his future. He will stay with Tottenham, at least for the next campaign.
