‘One of the best players in our squad’ – Antonio Conte says Tottenham have a star he is loving working with

Antonio Conte has labelled Lucas Moura one of the best players in the Tottenham Hotspur squad, and insisted that he loves working with the forward – in comments reported by Football London, writes the TBR.

Lucas played a starring role as Spurs booked their place in the last four of the Carabao Cup. They beat West Ham 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And it was the 29-year-old who scored the winning goal during the first-half.

The Brazilian was outstanding alongside Steven Bergwijn in those positions around Harry Kane. He was only on the pitch for an hour. And yet, only Nikola Vlasic managed to complete more key passes, according to Whoscored.

His energy appeared to be causing all sorts of problems for West Ham. And it was no surprise that plenty of Tottenham fans were full of praise for what they saw from Lucas against the Irons.

Clearly, Conte was just as impressed by what he saw from the former Paris Saint-Germain man when asked about his performance.

“Lucas Moura is one of the best players in our squad,” he said, as reported by Football London. “He links quality with quantity and he’s also a wonderful person. You always find on him a smile and I love to work with these type of players.”

Lucas is one player who has emerged from the early months of this season with plenty of credit. While he could be more productive in front of goal – he has scored once and provided one assist in the Premier League this season – his work-rate has been a real positive.

Certainly, there are not many occasions when a player can say that they have noticeably worked a lot harder than Lucas.

With that in mind, it is no surprise that Conte is loving the opportunity to work with him.
