Tottenham could be in line for a boost this weekend against Newcastle after Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that Steven Bergwijn is close to a full comeback.
The Dutchman has been missing over the last few weeks through injury after making as positive start to life under the new Tottenham boss.
Since arriving at Spurs for around £27m in January 2020, Bergwijn has suffered a few times with setbacks and knocks. He’d started all three opening games of this season, before an ankle injury derailed his progress.
However, speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Newcastle this weekend at St James’ Park, Nuno Santo hinted that Bergwijn could be involved after coming through training.
“He joined us yesterday. He is totally integrated with the group. Trained well yesterday, trained well today. No pain. So it’s about getting back to his highest levels of fitness, but he’s in the process of it,” Santo told Football.London.
The clash with Newcastle is set to be a feisty affair in the northeast. It is the first game for the Toon since their takeover was completed. It is expected to be a party-like atmosphere at St James’ Park.
