Nuno points out “main reason” for Tottenham faltering against Chelsea in London derby

Speaking in the post-match presser (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo gave his verdict on the loss to Chelsea. The gaffer pointed out the fact that Chelsea took the game away in the second half as Spurs were left chasing the game despite an equal first 45 minutes.

The London derby was the highlight fixture from the last match week. Spurs welcomed Chelsea in a bid to regain some lost footing after the loss to Crystal Palace the week before. Spurs negotiated the first half well, keeping an in-form Chelsea at bay and took the game to halftime with the scores undisturbed.

However, the home side clearly did not turn up after halftime as Chelsea took the initiative, adding three goals through the half, leaving Spurs chasing the game but not quite looking close to making a difference. Perhaps N’Golo Kante’s goal was unlucky but Spurs were fumbling at times to keep the ball from going in goal.

Nuno Espirito Santo was asked about the same issue with Spurs not being able to turn up in the second half. Here is what he had to say (h/t Football.london).

“A lot of things. A lot of things. Starting from the way we conceded, it’s disappointing the way to concede, through a set piece. Then after that it became really hard, really hard to get back in the game. Chelsea is a good team and in possession they created us problems.”

Adding to that, he was asked about another persistent issue Spurs have been having, i.e. the creativity in the side. Despite a more attacking lineup, Spurs face the same problems and Nuno attributed it to a lack of many ‘things’.

“Of course, of course, a lot of things. A lot of things that lack, a lack of time that we need to work together. That’s the main reason.”
