Michel Vorm says Tottenham have no leaders and makes Harry Kane accusation

Ex-Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm has slammed his former employers, insisting Antonio Conte’s new side don’t have an “old school leader”.

The Dutchman’s comments came shortly before Spurs failed to beat ten-men Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Vorm said: “The situation over the past few years has been very up and down.

“I don’t think Tottenham have a real old school leader in the squad that will say, ‘Boys, we need to change this around.'”

Tottenham struggled to create chances during Conte’s first Premier League match in charge, failing to hit the target with their eight shots.

Harry Kane, in particular, had a difficult afternoon at Goodison Park as his poor start to the season continues.

The England captain has managed just one goal in his ten Premier League outings this term, although he does have five in the Europa Conference League.

And Vorm, who made 48 appearances for Spurs in all competitions between 2014 and 2020, believes Kane must focus on his own form rather than be a leader under Conte.

The former Swansea goalkeeper added: “Harry Kane is struggling for goals, he’s focussing on his own performance and so it’s hard to be that leader.

“I think Antonio Conte will make sure that the players speak more and are more direct.”

Although Tottenham couldn’t get the Conte era off to a winning start in the Premier League, many pundits believe he will improve the London team.

Speaking before the game, former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison described Conte as a “serial winner” and praised the appointment.

The Italian has won four Serie A titles, two Italian Super Cups, the Premier League and FA Cup during his managerial career.

Conte also enjoyed a successful playing career, winning five Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia, Champions League, UEFA Cup and various other trophies at Juventus.

Morrison said: “Conte is a serial winner, you have to listen to him. At Chelsea, Inter, Juve, he’s a winner. He’s brought in three fitness coaches.

“They have one of the lowest running stats in the league. Soon they’ll be one of the highest.

“Tanguy Ndombele, I think he’s one of the most talented individuals in the Premier League. If he can get him working hard, they’ve got one hell of a player.
