Lucas Bergvall Reveals Why He Chose Spurs Over Barcelona Despite Deco’s “Crazy Day” Tactics

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Lucas Bergvall has lifted the lid on his decision to choose North London over the advances of Barcelona.

While speculation swirls around who manager Ange Postecoglou might sign this summer, Bergvall’s arrival from Sweden has flown somewhat under the radar. The decision to allow the 18-year-old to continue his pre-season with Djurgarden appears wise, as he’s been in excellent form.

With his talent undeniable, Tottenham fans will be hopeful Bergvall can make an immediate impact on the first team. After all, Barcelona clearly recognized his potential, making their move alongside Spurs for the Swedish youth international.

But in the end, Bergvall’s heart belonged to Tottenham, just like fellow new signing Radu Dragusin, who snubbed Bayern Munich to join the club’s exciting project.

Speaking in his native Sweden, Bergvall revealed a fascinating story about Barcelona’s attempt to woo him. He explained, “We were eating in the mountains with Deco [Barcelona’s Sporting Director], we looked outside and there were 150 people trying to get in.”

“We got into a taxi, drove into the city and they were following us. We got into a garage and switched cars. It was a crazy day!”

Despite Deco’s unorthodox tactics, Bergvall’s mind was already set on North London. “I came home and needed to decide, but my gut feeling was always Tottenham,” he continued.

“They play really good football and it’s fun to watch. Ange is doing a great job. When you’re looking at the team you feel like they’re going to new areas and are starting to build something.”

Bergvall will now be at the forefront of that future Tottenham are building, hoping his talent and excitement for the club’s direction lead to success.
