Talking to GentingBet (h/t football.london), Louis Saha urged Dele Alli to decide whether he wants to stay at Tottenham Hotspur or not, but backed him to return to his top form again, writes Tothelaneandback.
The English midfielder broke through Spurs’ ranks in the 2015/16 Premier League season and became a regular fixture in the starting XI. He made at least 25 Premier League appearances in the 4 following seasons, but that has changed now.
With Jose Mourinho in charge of the club, the 25-year-old slowly found starts harder to come by. Alli was named in Mourinho’s Premier League starting XI just twice during this campaign. (h/t transfermarkt)
But Mourinho is now gone, and Ryan Mason is in charge of the club, seemingly for the rest of the season. And amid the change, Saha wants Alli to decide on his long-term Spurs future and then commit to it.
“Dele has to make a decision with what he wants to do and he has to fully commit to it. If he stays he has to work super hard and use what has happened in the right way and to enjoy even more what he does.”
With playing time hard to come by, he was subject to interest from Paris Saint-Germain in this January transfer window with Pochettino at the helm. But nothing ever came of it and no deal was agreed. (h/t football.london)
But Saha believes the priority for Alli right now is to play. The English international has suffered from injuries this season but the former Spurs and Everton striker thinks that Alli, if given the chance to play, has all the tools to return to his best form.
“The main thing for him is to play. To feel like he is loved, to feel like he is supported. Then he will express his talent because he has got plenty. That isn’t easy and that’s football… he has all the tools to bounce back and be a great player.”
Having a fit and firing Alli would be a dream for Mason to add to the potent frontline of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. But the onus lies with the midfielder himself, and how much he wants to return to his glory days again.
