‘Just 2 weeks after rumours said he wanted out’ – Tottenham key man is about to sign a new deal

Just 15 days ago, before the turn of the year, outlets in France claimed that Hugo Lloris wanted to return to his home country once his contract expired at the end of this season, writes the TBR.

The French World Cup winner has been one of Spurs’ most important players ever since he joined the club. He is a real leader and his performances between the sticks have been brilliant since the start of this season as well.

The report that claimed that Lloris was open to a return to Nice in France shocked many people. Antonio Conte was immediately quizzed about the Frenchman’s contract and the Spurs boss remained adamant that he was staying.

Now, it looks like all the rumours are about to be put to bed.

Lloris was benched by Antonio Conte in Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea last night. Pierluigi Gollini was preferred over him and that raised many eyebrows.

However, Conte’s decision had nothing to do with Lloris’ contract situation at the club.

Football London reveal today that talks between Lloris and the club have finally started now and a new deal is expected to be finalised very soon.

Lloris is set to continue his stay in North London and that is great news for Spurs fans.

Lloris leaving in the summer would’ve been a huge blow for Spurs for more than just one reason.

Conte doesn’t seem convinced with Gollini and it looked like he’ll be sent back to his parent club. Spurs already need a new goalkeeper to replace the Italian, but if Lloris was to leave too, they would need two top-quality shot-stoppers.

That would’ve taken a huge chunk out of their transfer budget, which would be terrible. Thankfully for them, they only have to worry about a backup now and that’s good news for every Spurs fan out there.
