Tottenham Hotspur may be on the lookout for a new manager in the near future, as reports suggest that the club is preparing to part ways with Antonio Conte after his recent outburst.
With a number of potential candidates being linked with the role, one name that has emerged as a strong possibility is former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.
According to ESPN journalist James Olley, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had previously expressed his openness to rehiring the Argentine coach at some point in the future. Speaking on ESPN’s YouTube channel, Olley recalled an interview with Levy from a few years ago, where the chairman had told him about his views on Pochettino’s potential return to the club.
While Pochettino’s first spell at Tottenham did not yield any major trophies, he was still regarded as one of the club’s most successful managers in recent times. He guided Spurs to a Champions League final and had them regularly challenging at the top of the Premier League table, playing an exciting brand of football along the way.
However, it remains to be seen whether Levy would be willing to swallow his pride and bring Pochettino back, particularly after having dismissed him from his role in 2019. Reappointing Pochettino would essentially mean that Levy would have to admit to making a mistake in letting him go.
Despite the potential obstacles, Pochettino remains a popular choice among the Tottenham fan base, and reports suggest that some members of the Spurs squad have even reached out to him about a possible return to north London. Whether or not Pochettino ends up back at Tottenham, it seems clear that the club will be looking for a manager who can help them return to the top of the English game.
