According to journalist Marco Barzaghi, in a recent video on his YouTube channel, Tottenham Hotspur’s Ivan Perisic may look to return to Inter Milan at the end of the season, just a year after leaving the Italian side on a free transfer.
Perisic joined Tottenham last summer when his contract with Inter came to an end, teaming up with former manager Antonio Conte in North London. His signing was seen as something of a coup for Spurs at the time, but the increasingly precarious situation regarding Conte’s own position at the club has hit an all-time low, according to Italian outlet Corriere della Sera. The publication suggests the 53-year-old will leave Spurs at the end of the season when his contract expires.
If that is the case, there’s every chance Perisic will look to move on too, according to Barzaghi, who believes Perisic’s experience of the Premier League has been far from what he envisaged. On his YouTube channel (via FC Inter 1908), Barzaghi said: “Even in the first leg [against AC Milan] we said it would be difficult to see him again like in the last season and that from then on there would always be a downside.
“[Perisic] too would like to return, above all because he understood that Conte is leaving at the end of the season, and things could get even more complicated for him. He, like Hakimi, as they confide to his former teammates, would like to return. I don’t think Perisic expected such a modest adventure in the Premier League.”
Perisic has had a fairly impressive campaign from an individual perspective, contributing nine assists across 35 appearances across all competitions for Spurs this term, according to Transfermarkt. However, it seems that the Croatian international may not be entirely satisfied with his experience in the Premier League and may look to return to Inter Milan.
This news comes amidst growing speculation over the future of Conte at Tottenham, who has endured a difficult time in North London since his arrival. Should Conte leave the club, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Perisic and other players at Tottenham, who may also seek a move away from the club.
In conclusion, the potential return of Ivan Perisic to Inter Milan at the end of the season would undoubtedly be a significant blow for Tottenham, who will be looking to build on their recent successes. Nonetheless, with growing uncertainty surrounding the future of Antonio Conte at the club, it may be that more players follow Perisic in seeking a move elsewhere. Only time will tell what the future holds for Tottenham and its players.
