Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Steven Bergwijn is wearing a protective boot after the Tottenham Hotspur winger’s Instagram post on Tuesday.
As informs the HITC, the Netherlands international inadvertently revealed that his injury is a bit more serious than first feared by uploading a photo of himself in the boot.
Bergwijn, who has impressed for Spurs this season, picked up an injury in the 2-2 Europa Conference League draw with Rennes last week, resulting in being sidelined for the 3-0 demolition by Chelsea days later.
The photo of Bergwijn in the boot has caused a bit of a stir on Twitter.
And speaking ahead of tonight’s EFL Cup clash away to Wolves, Nuno said to Spurs’ official website: “He has an injury on his foot, a sprain, he twisted his ankle and it’s very painful. The decision was to protect his foot and at the same time keep doing upper body workouts to try to stay as fit as possible.”
Of course, the North Londoners are in no position to turn their nose up at a trophy, having not won any since 2008.
But having said that, finishing in the top four is Tottenham’s primary goal this season and with options stretched thin as it is, the Dutchman probably would’ve sat this one out.
It’ll be interesting to see if Nuno starts Bryan Gil on the wing in place of Bergwijn or Lucas Moura, who is also out.
The Spaniard hasn’t featured all that much in English competition yet since his summer move from Sevilla, but with the two wingers absent, and Nuno expected to ring some changes, it could be an ideal time for Gil.
